Good morning families and students!

Reminders to grade 6's - I have now received 2 brainstorm pages of "My Life in Review". This has been fabulous because I have been able to work with these two students to support the next steps. As soon as you have the brainstorm page done please email it to me. It doesn't need to look pretty, just your ideas about what has made you, you in your life so far.

Daily Challenge: Collect some of the objects which have been most important to you while staying isolated. take a picture of them and send them to me.

PE: Here is Joe, this guy makes me laugh and he keeps us fit at the same time. Has anyone been doing these videos? I have been digging a 4 foot deep hole in our back yard for our green house for my exercise. Are you doing other PE. Let me know. It is ok to comment below or send me an email, Jessica.mckerrow@sd78.bc.ca.

It was fabulous to see 11 students again online yesterday! Mrs. Vickers is sorry she missed it and wants you to know she misses you guys too. I love seeing how much you all miss each other through your comments and the games we play as well.

If there is anything I can do let me know.
Have a great day!
Mrs. McKerrow

Good morning Families!

Reminder: Zoom meeting tomorrow at 10 am. If you do not know how to sign in to this please email me at Jessica.mckerrow@sd78.bc.ca.

PE: If going out side, riding a bike and going for a walk are your thing please do them today. Otherwise, here is an alternative. I found a YouTube channel where a guy named Joe does some great "made for kid" PE videos. His enthusiasm is hopefully contagious. Click here for Joe

Daily Challenge: Here are some hopefully fun riddles to solve. I'll give out the answers tomorrow in our Zoom session.
1.     What gets more wet while it dries?
2.     The more there is, the less you see. What is it?
3.     Billy’s mother had five children. The first was named Lala, the second was named Lele, the third was named Lili, the fourth was named Lolo. What was the fifth child named?

Just wanted to share some awesome photos with you. Here is a photo from Coira of her family in PJs for Friday.
And here is her bridge..
Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Families!
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Science - Note that the units have changed so please check out this page. I have not listed both Live IT and Mystery Science web pages as good sources for you to check out. For the next two weeks I would normally be focussing on the Birth of Rocks Unit from mysteryscience.com.

Daily Challenge: Click here and try to trace the house without lifting your pen. If you can't print the image, no worries. Just draw it on a paper. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

PE: Click here for a work out routine.

Good luck today!
Have fun!

Reminders: Grade 6's I am looking for your notes and then a draft on "My life in Review". Everyone make sure you are focussing on reading for 40 min, summary of the book you read, IXL for 30 min and your socials project with Mrs. Vickers.

-PE: We are settling in to a bit of rain coming up so get outside today. Go for a bike ride.

PJ and Jersey day today! Take some photos we would love to see them.

Hi!
I am writing again today to let you know tomorrow is PJ/Jersey day. Take a picture of yourself in your PJs or your favourite jersey. I've already sent mine in the teachers are going to post theirs together tomorrow.
: )
Good morning Families,

It was wonderful to see 11 students online yesterday for our class meeting! Pictionary was fabulous! We plan on playing a game next week again and then we are going to have some book talks by those who have finished some of their summaries! Really looking forward to talking about books again. During times like this reading is a way to travel, escape and explore safely.

Here is our first entry for a bridge from Khloe! Thanks Khloe and I look forward to some other entries. Get creative, what materials can you use. That is you challenge for today.

PE: It's raining today but get outside, can you find some blooming dandelions, clover or other edible plants? Take some photos. Remember ask an adult before eating anything wild.

Have Fun!
Remember we are available by email, remind or phone during school hours. Please make contact if there is any way we can reach out to support you and your family. Mrs. Vickers and I are here to help.

Wednesday, April 22, 2020

Good morning Families!
A reminder that we have our Zoom meeting at 10:00 today.

Daily Challenge: Please continue your work on your bridge today.

PE: I'm borrowing this idea from Mr. Watchorn. Go for a walk today and take some pictures of some local edible plants. This website provides some photos and descriptions of local edible plants.

Have a great day! See you at 10!

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Goodmorning Grade 5/6 class,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Are you planting a garden this year? How's it going? Send me an email or comment below to let us know how things are going.

Daily Challenge: Using materials around your house, that your parents have said are ok, design and build a bridge. I think this one we may work on for this week so you can take your time with it. I did one of these challenges with my kids last week and realized that it took us a lot longer than an hour.

PE: Play Sardines with your family. This is like the opposite of Hide-and-Go-Seek. One person hides, everyone else tries to find that person, when you find them you squish into their hiding spot. The first person to find the hider gets to be the first to hide next round.

Reminders: Zoom meeting 10am tomorrow! So looking forward to seeing everyone there. Please call or email me if you are having difficulty with Zoom and I will help you sort it out.

New Science Unit: Click here or I put the link in the Science page on the right hand side.

Have a great day!

Good morning students!

Welcome to Friday. I was talking with a student yesterday about how great Friday and the weekend can feel when we put in so much work during the week. If you are in a safe and healthy place, challenging yourself to get your work done can feel really satisfying. I am available to talk to any students if they need any extra support.

I love how Will put a comment below that was positive and this is a great way to interact with this page. All comments come to me first to get approved so that way we can keep them constructive.

For those of you new to our blog a reminder that reading for about 30-45 min a day is really important (please look at the reading tab on the right for more information). As well Mrs. Vickers and I would like you to focus on getting your Math IXL mark up and your social studies project (check out Mrs. Vickers work and Math on the right).

Daily challenge:
Using newspaper and tape (or something else that will hold the newspaper together) build the tallest freestanding tower you can. Remember to take photos.

PE: Did you make your jump rope yesterday? Either finish it or use it. Click here to get some ideas.

Special Note: It is a Pro-D on Monday so I will be offline although you can still reach me through Remind.

Set an achievable goal for yourself today and enjoy your Friday!

Everyone:

Today for your daily challenge - Check out Mr. Laws Blog on the right hand side! He has got some great music lessons.

PE: We continue to be blessed with this gorgeous weather... so please go outside and enjoy it with your favourite activities. Do you have a skipping rope? If not you might be able to make one following this you tube video with plastic bags lying around the house.

Have fun today!

Happy Wednesday!

Daily Challenge: Zoom meeting today at 10 am. If you do not have the invite or have not been able to sign in so that you see a waiting room please send me a Remind message or email.

PE: Put a circle on the ground with a hula-hoop or make one out of rope. Take a ball or an object you can throw. Take 5 steps back and try to throw your object into the hoop. Can you make it? If you can take 5 more steps back and so on. See how far can you get away from the hoop but still manage to get your object in the hoop. If you have an other person with you, make it a competition. Above all enjoy being outside today, it is going to be spectacular.

Thank you to those of you who have handed in a summary, I look forward to calling each of you and talking about your writing and your book that you read. If you are running out of reading material please let me know I can help you get some more.

Here is a game Aubrey built in his yard. Mini Golf! Love it. You can see his home made golf club, ball and the plant pot is the hole!
Have a great day!

Good Morning Everyone!

Important things to do today:
1. Give everyone in your family a hug today and tell them 2 things they do that you are grateful for.
2. Sign up for the Zoom meeting tomorrow at 10 am. The goals of the meeting will be for the kids to learn about Zoom and for us to play a community building game.
3. Grade 6s, I'd like the brainstorm notes you have done on "My Life in Review". Please see the link on the right hand side for more direction with this writing project. Send me a photo of these notes via email or Remind when you are finished.
4. Remember reading everyday, getting your summary ready if you are done your book, going on IXL and working on your Socials project are what Mrs Vickers and I would like you to focus on right now.

Some photos to share:
This is Alyssa playing banker at home with Monopoly. Way to be the boss Alyssa!

And, we all knew Brodie was fabulous at motor biking, but did you know he also knows how to help run a dairy! Like seeing you help your mom out Brodie.

Finally, here is Aubrey's meme. I will add it to the Meme wall. Keep them coming everyone!

Daily Challenge today: What boardgames have you got around your house that you haven't played in a while? And/or who what chores around the house could you help your parents with?
PE: Let's go for a bike ride or walk today. What flowers are blooming in your area? Can you name them or find their names on the computer?

Have a great day and please remember I'm available by phone, email and Remind during the day if you have any questions. Keep the photos coming!

Good morning families! Students - thank you for all the work you are putting in! Families - thank you for supporting your child at home. Please send me a message today if I can help with anything and thank you to those of you who are continuing to reach out.

Some reminders:
1. Grade 6's you are working on your "My Life in Review" brain storming page today. See link on the right for more direction.
2. All students should receive a zoom invitation via email today. Go ahead and click on it to set up the zoom app if you do not already have it. We will meet on Wednesday at 10am.
3. Everyone is focussing on getting their reading, math and socials goals done and if time you are working through other parts of the "Shape of the Day"(see the link on the right).

Thank you for your continued photos! It is wonderful to see what everyone is doing to keep them selves busy. The photos of you working, creating or helping out around the house are fabulous.

Here is Leelind making some mouth watering kabobs!

Here is Brooke, letting us know that she ate all our banana cream pie without saving us any!
And here is Aubrey's Thank You sign! Has anyone else done there's? It is a great activity to remember what we are thankful for right now.

Daily Challenge idea: Using only the items you have at home that have been okayed by your family, create a toy that you think kids your age would enjoy playing with. It should have at least one moving part. When you are done answer these questions: What worked? What didn't work? What could work better? Send photos!
PE: Another brilliant day, get outside. I'm thinking you may need some extra time on your daily challenge today so please take it. If you are done try building an obstacle course today for your bike or a younger sibling.

Have fun and stay safe!

Zoom Meeting

Hi families,
Just wanted you to know that I'm setting up a Zoom meeting for our class each Wednesday at 10am. Starting April 15. I will be sending you all an invite tomorrow. If you do not receive anything by noon, please give me a ring or send me an email.

Jessica
Good morning families!

Today's challenge: How about learning a favourite family recipe? Or looking up a recipe you love using the ingredients you can find at your home? Here is a photo of Brooke cooking up a Banana cream pie... I think she might be camera shy because I don't see her in the photo!

PE: It is going to be gorgeous today, let's get outside! Do you have space to build a fort outside? Maybe with an old sheet and some chairs. Here is a photo of Aubrey making a bike ramp outside! Thanks Aubrey for sharing.

Grade 6's I want to let you know that we are going to find a way to get creative this year with a Grad Celebration. In preparation for this I need you to start thinking about your writing project for the ceremony "Your life in review". This is a reflective piece about key things that have happened in your life so far. It is private, it doesn't have to be shared if you don't want it to be. Today, find some time in the day, perhaps during silent reading, to brain storm some ideas. On the right hand side under "Other Important Links" I'm going to add some questions which will hopefully guide your thoughts.

Have fun today everyone and keep up the great work! Check out Khloe, love how hard she is working!

Keep the photos coming everyone! I think it will help us to all understand that we are going through this together!

Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Dear Families,
Please note, I have moved the "Shape of the Day" to a link on the right hand side of this site. Daily I will be posting a challenge as well as a physical activity task so you can keep moving.

Daily Challenge : find a positive yet funny meme and email it to me for our meme wall.

PE : Do you remember how to play Hop Scotch? Here are the rules. Learn as a family. If you don't have chalk, no problem, try using sticks or rope to make the lines. Email me a picture of what you do for PE today. I'd love to see it and I will only share with others if you let me know it is ok.

Have fun today! Keep in touch.
