Hi Families,
This is just a reminder. School starts again this week. Grade 6 students returning to school are attending Tuesday and Grade 5s who are returning are attending Monday and Tuesday. Monday to Wednesday are regular school hours. We will still be doing our Zoom meeting at 10am on Wednesday so those at home can meet with those at school. We will play a Kahoot game together on the Zoom meeting. I will also be available for online instruction Thursday and Friday and I will be blogging each morning with instructions for those continuing to learn at home.

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Good morning everyone!

I have some great news. Over the past couple days Brodie and Aubrey have been helping me put in some fence posts. They did a fabulous job, learned how to mix cement and us a level. Kayleb was there too to help dig some posts. I will be working in the garden again today with students from 12:30-2:30 if you are interested in helping on Friday let me know because I have room to take more students.  Thank you Brodie, Kayleb and Aubrey for your help.

I hope everyone had a lot of fun with our Kahoot yesterday on our Zoom meeting. Please send me your questions for the next Kahoot quiz on Wednesday at 10am.

Weekly Challenge: Time machine with one movable part. Send in your photo when you are finished. Point out which is your moving part(s).

PE: Here is Joe. But as always, if you can get outside. How many different kinds of bees and insects can you find in your yard? At the school right now, the big tree in the garden is flowering, and if you stand under it you hear this significant hum, when you look up you see thousands of bees taking pollen from the tree. It is magnificent.

Have a great day everyone!

Weekly Challenge: continue with your time machine, send me photos!

PE: it is far too nice to be inside today so please get out and ask what you can do to help around the yard.  Here is Joe if you need to stay inside.

A redo

Hi Everyone,
I wasn't happy with my first attempt at this so I did it again. Hope you can read it better this time.

Dear Families,

My plan is to work in the garden today. I will be at school for most of the day. Please let me know if you are interested and I can organize students so they are distanced. It should be lots of fun.

As well online today is a celebration done through the WE.org for graduation students. I thought maybe the grade 6s might be interested but it should be a good show with some great singers and speakers so everyone please tune in. Here is the link.

PE: It is going to be a beautiful day so please get outside but if you can't here is Joe.

Weekly Challenge: Please keep up with your time machine. I look forward to the photos.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Jessica.mckerrow@sd78.bc.ca

Thank you

Good morning families!

Hope this finds you well on the beautiful rainy Monday morning. This is me with the greenhouse I painted this weekend...
I guess I should call it a whitehouse now (LOL). What did you get up to this weekend?

PE today: Here is Joe if you are staying inside today.

Weekly Challenge: This week I want you to build a time machine that can take you and a friend back in time. It needs to have two moving parts. Imagine what you could do with a time machine right now. What would you use it for? As always use materials around the house that are being discarded (thrown away) and are approved by the adults in your house.

I don't think I showed off Coira's cool race car that she built last week. Here you go!
Great work Coira.

Everyone, keep the photos coming.

Here is a message from us at Kent. Hope you enjoy!

Good morning families!

Please check back in an hour as I will have a cool photo from us at Kent to you at home.

It has been just fabulous meeting with some of you on zoom one on one to talk about your writing. These conversations of intense work together are times we rarely get in the class so it is nice to be able to spend this time with each individual. Please keep the summaries coming. I am just finishing the Endling Part 2 with my girls at home and it is a spectacular book. Hope you all read both Endling books as I highly recommend them!  I think Brooke can back me up here too.

PE : it is rainy today so here is a yoga session or try some an other motivational session with Joe.
Daily Challenge: Your futuristic race car is due today. Please send me photos!

Dear Families,
Hope you had a great long weekend. I know it was nice for us and our kids to not try and do school but just be able to focus on playing outside and having fun on the trampoline together.  What did you get up to? My daughter discovered the drill and she was determined to build a fairy house. Comment below and share with us what you did!

Science this week is all about industry. Here is a link or check out our science page.

PE: Please keep getting active by getting out of the house and staying healthy. Here is a link to Joe if you need some motivation.

Weekly Challenge: Using supplies around your house that your parents/guardians are ok with, build a race care of the future. It should be able to roll quickly down a ramp.  Have fun and send photos!

Some EXCITING NEWS - We are opening schools again June 1st for students to attend part time.  If you and your family decide that you will be attending you will be at school two days a week. We will be maintaining social distancing during this time and we have some guidelines in place to keep you safe. I will be sending out a Remind note as well as an email as well.

Good morning everyone,
How are you doing today?
I found this engaging resource online which is linked with our Big Life Journal. It might be an interesting game to play with someone in your house today.... or even just read the game board and try to answer some of the reflective questions.

As well, Mr. Watchorn shared this with us yesterday. It is a live webcam of an actual Spotted Owl Baby. These are endangered owls and the webcam is supported by a group trying to breed the owls and increase their numbers in our province.

PE: Here is Joe. Today he has got his whole family with him. And he is dressed up as Harry Potter!

Daily Challenge: Finish your house, send me a photo. If you are finished that work on the Big Life Journal interviews or the game I posted above.

Have a great Friday and a wonderful long weekend.

It was great to see so many on Zoom yesterday! Thank you for continuing to send in your writing and photos to me it has been fabulous to talk with many of you over zoom about your work and celebrate your learning.

Here are the interview questions I was showing you yesterday from your Big Life Journals. Remember to ask 2 people you feel know you and see what kind of answers you get. I would love to see the questionnaire when you are done.

PE: Here is a link to Joe.
Daily Challenge: Keep working on your dream house and send me some photos.

Bienvenue mardi!
Welcome to Tuesday!

Hope you are have a wonderful morning with your family and siblings. Please remember, we are not going to be doing school at home forever and try to find some of the gifts that come with being at home. Do you get to play more with siblings? Is there someone at home you have learned more about because you are spending more time with them? And if your answers to this is "I don't care, I'm just bored." Then here is some great reading on why we can be grateful for boredom.  (I hope you are smiling right now.)

Remember you are fabulous!

Ok, now down to business.
PE: It's raining, but Joe is still as excited as ever. Check out his workout today!

Daily Challenge: Looking forward to seeing your dream houses. Keep working on them. Here is some inspiration.

Science: The focus of Live iT this week is robotics, check it out on our Science Page!

Have fun today! Find some positives and comment below about them.

Good Morning Families!

An other week has gone and I hope you have been working hard so that tomorrow and Sunday can feel like a real holiday.

Today, please take some time to get something special ready for your mom. Here is a website to look at for some great ideas for your mom. If crafts are not your thing, then maybe think of some extra chores you can do to help out (empty the dishwasher, clean the floor, pull out weeds). What else can you do? I'd love to hear how you make Mother's Day special.

Daily challenge: finish up your amusement park ride and please send me a photo.

PE: Get outside and remember your sunscreen and hat today. Otherwise, here is Joe.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Good Morning Families!

Did you know today was named Child Mental Health day because of the hard work done by two mom's in Ontario in 2017? How lucky are we to have MOMs and Caregivers who look after us when we need it most! Speaking of which this weekend is Mother's Day! Tune in tomorrow and I will have some links for you with activities to say a special thank you to your mom.

For Child and Mental Health day have a think:
If someone came up to you and asked you to name three things that you really care about, what would they be?
- some version of “family” (including pets)?
- the “environment?”
- a thing
- a friend
Knowing what is truly important us helps us stay focussed and make good decisions about how to keep the important stuff at the centre of what we do. If it is a person you care about most, tell them. If it is a thing, are you looking after it? Just some food for thought today.

Daily Challenge: Looking forward to your amusement park rides. Due tomorrow! Check previous posts if you need more information.

PE: Keep moving! Nothing like keeping active to stay mentally healthy. Here are some links if you want to move inside: Adrienne Yoga or PE with Joe

Wednesday, May 6, 2020

Dear Families,

Sooooooooooooo looking forward to Zoom today at 10am. We are building on the fun we are already having. Let's introduce our pets if you have them, and if you don't a stuffed animal will do. We are also adding in some learning about ourselves. With all this alone time it's a great moment to be reflective, so that's what we are working on today.

PE: Today if Joe is boring you try some Yoga with Adriene. It's a little rainy today BUT GUESS WHAT... did anyone see the weather for tomorrow! Get your shorts ready because its going to be FANTASTIC!

Daily Challenge: I hope you are all thinking up some super cool crazy amusement park ride because I'm totally looking forward to seeing your photos! Please see the previous two days for more information if you need them.

See you soon!

So looking forward to seeing everyone's pets tomorrow. We are going to do some more Pictionary and I have a lesson planned for us all to learn more about ourselves and our interests.

Daily challenge: Continue with yesterday's challenge. Build an amusement ride. Send me a photo. Let me know what you like most about your ride. Who is it for? Have fun!

PE: It is sunny today. Is there some yard work you can help with? Here is a great link for indoor PE if you need it.

Miss you,
Send some photos when you get a chance!
